June 6, 2009 - Local Shreveport Business is completely destroyed by Fire

There were no reported injuries to firefighters nor to business employees.

Kairos Global, a wood chip manufacturing company, located near downtown Shreveport was the scene of a 2-story, single-alarm fire that kept more than 35 Shreveport firefighters busy for more than two hours. The heavy smoke and flames could be seen for nearly a mile. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or to their employees.

The fire was reported by the security company employed by the business at 3:21 p.m. Shreveport firefighters arrived on scene in less than five minutes to find heavy smoke coming from the doors and openings of the building. After cutting holes in the walls, firefighters discovered the fire in the walls and sub-flooring between the first and second levels of the building.

After fighting the fire for an hour, Battalion Chief Tim Thames ordered a defensive fire attack to prevent injury to firefighters because the fire was destroying the support structure of the building which put firefighters at greater risk of serious injury. This incident required the use of 7 fire engines, 3 ladder trucks, 1 heavy rescue truck, 2 battalion chiefs and 1 medic unit. The flames were under control by 5:55 p.m.

Fire officials said this fire is under investigation.
