April 10, 2009 - Early Morning House Fire in Southeast Shreveport is declared Accidental

Fire crews contained the fire to the kitchen

This morning at 6:42 a.m., the Shreveport Fire Department responded to 9364 Stonebriar Circle in southeast Shreveport. Firefighters arrived on scene at 6:48 a.m. to find light smoke coming from attic vents of a single story brick home. Firefighters forced entry through the front and rear doors to gain access and extinguished the fire in less than ten minutes after arriving. Fire crews contained the fire to the kitchen.

The owners were away at the time of the fire. The house sitter admitted to fire officials that she had removed clothes from the dryer and set the basket on the counter top near the stove before leaving. Fire investigators believe a control knob for the stove was inadvertently turned ‘on’ which led to heat from a burner igniting the plastic clothes basket. This fire is considered accidental.
