April 7, 2009 - Shreveport Fire Department Receives Communications Equipment Grant

Recently awarded a $76,700 grant

The Shreveport Fire Department was recently awarded a $76,700 grant that will provide much needed communications equipment for emergency operations. The grant is provided by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Grants and Training and is administered by the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. Chief Brian Crawford said, “The awarding of this grant money will provide many communication needs for our department at a time where existing funding in our budget for these needs is not available. It will also serve to enhance the delivery of emergency services for day-to-day operations, technical rescue capabilities, and firefighter safety.”

Some examples of the equipment that will be purchased are:

○ Repeater, portable tower, and radios for K-9 Search and Rescue Team
○ Portable Radios for emergency operations
○ Ambulance Radios required by the State to operate during local and state level emergencies such as hurricanes and tornados
○ Electronic Clipboard computers for patient information for Emergency Medical Services
○ Firefighter radio communications while conducting fire attack operations
