Fredrick Sanders, a 19 year department veteran
Shreveport Fire Chief Brian Crawford today announced Fredrick Sanders, a 19 year department veteran, as the new Assistant to the Fire Chief. Chief Sanders has been serving provisionally in the position since last September and was tapped for the full-time position from a field of highly qualified applicants after successfully passing the Civil Service exam.
Chief Sanders will provide direct and logistical support to the fire chief in the daily execution of his duties; have overall responsibility for the department’s $47 million operating budget; supervision of the administrative Office Staff; and direct the organization’s highly successful Strategic Planning Team.
Before this appointment Chief Sanders served as post-certified Investigator in the Administrative and Criminal Investigative Section of the Department’s Fire Prevention Division. His other fire service roles also include positions as a Firefighter, Fire Inspector, Bomb Technician, and Educator. He possesses a bachelor degree in Organizational Management from Wiley College and an associate degree in Safety and Hazardous Material Technology from Southern University at Shreveport.
Chief Sanders brings a wealth of fire service knowledge and experience with him to his new and challenging role. We are pleased to have him as a permanent part of the fire department’s administrative team,” said Crawford who previously held the position for six years before being named Shreveport’s Fire Chief by Mayor Cedric Glover last July.
