March 27, 2009 - Motor Vehicle Collision Injures Six People

Cause of the accident is still under investigation

The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to a head-on automobile collision at 8:28 AM this morning. The accident occurred on West 70th Street just west of Walker Road. The collision involved two cars that injured a total of six people ranging in age from as young as 5 years old to 18 years old.

The accident required four SFD Medic Units to transport all six patients to the hospital. Four of the patient were stable with non-life threatening injuries and were taken to LSU-MC and Willis Knighton Medical Center. The two other patients had severe injuries but were stable on scene and enroute to LSU-MC. One of those patients was pinned in the car and required 30 minutes to extricate from the vehicle.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Shreveport Police Department. The airbags did deploy in the vehicles but it is unsure if all occupants were wearing their seat belts.
