March 24, 2009 - SFD Responds to Third Apartment Fire in Four Days

The cause of the fire is still under investigation

The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to the Autumn Woods Apartments at 9050 Youree Drive at 6:07 PM this evening for report of an apartment on fire. Fire Crews arrived three minutes later to find smoke coming from the front of a downstairs apartment and flames shooting out from the back of the apartment. Fire crews immediately began evacuation of the adjacent apartments and began extinguishing the fire in the downstairs apartment. The fire was brought under control at 6:27 PM.
 
The fire was discovered by the occupant of the apartment that was just above the involved apartment. He stated he was awakened by smoke coming through his air condition vents. The involved apartment was not occupied by any tenants at the time of the fire. However, it did have a heavy fire load contained inside it as it was being used to store building materials for apartment renovations. Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the downstairs apartment. The upstairs apartment did sustain some fire damage to its balcony area and some smoke did get to three other apartments but all smoke was removed from them through ventilation fans.
 
This is the third apartment fire in Shreveport in the last four days. It is also this apartment complex that was the site of a fire that took the lives of two children on May 18, 2008. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported in this fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
