March 22, 2009 - Afternoon Fire Damages Two Apartments

Second apartment fire this weekend

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to a second apartment fire this weekend. Fire crews were dispatched to 8525 Chalmette at the Orleans Square Apartment at 12:54 PM. Fire crews arrived at 12:58 PM to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of one of the apartment buildings. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire and contain all of the fire damage to two apartments and also prevented the fire from spreading through the common attic of the entire building which contained a total of six apartments. The fire was brought under control at 1:23 PM.
 
None of the occupants of the two apartments were home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported. Fire investigator Chris Robinson determined the fire was accidental and caused by an outside plug on the back porch of the downstairs apartment.
