March 20, 2009 - Two Alarm Bed and Breakfast Fire

Additional manpower needed to extinguish the blaze

The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to the Fairfield Inn Bed and Breakfast at 948 Boulevard Street early this morning at 3:33 AM. Fire Crews from Station Seven arrived on scene within five minutes and found heavy smoke coming from the roof and flames showing from the kitchen area in the back of the residence. The fire was difficult to extinguish based on the building construction of the residence and large areas of attic space that were difficult to access.

A second alarm was dispatched at 3:56 AM for additional manpower to extinguish the blaze. The fire was brought under control at 4:50 AM. The fire caused heavy damage to the attic space directly above the kitchen and an adjacent porch.

The Bed and Breakfast was occupied at the time by two tenants, who both were awakened by fire and smoke alarms. One of the tenants got up and discovered fire on the back porch and the roof of the kitchen area. There were no injuries reported from the tenants or residents.

Fire Investigator Rodney Murray discovered a large electric fan that was mounted on the porch near the roof of the kitchen area and has identified it as the probable cause for the fire.
