March 1, 2009 - Vigilant Neighbors report Outside Fire in Allendale Community

Concerned neighbors saw heavy smoke

Shreveport-At 5:40 p.m. this evening, the Shreveport Fire Department Dispatchers received an emergency 9-1-1 call from concerned neighbors who saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the north exterior side of a home at 2038 Grove Street. Fire crews arrived on scene in approximately 3 minutes, and quickly extinguished the fire in six minutes. Two adults were inside and were unaware to the fire outside.

A six-year old juvenile admitted to using a cigarette lighter to set plastic and leaves on fire. According to the juvenile, the child attempted to put out the fire, and when it continued to burn and spread the child got scared and ran. The child’s name will not be released because of their age.

Fire officials report that a majority of the damage was contained to the exterior of the home while the inside suffered light smoke damage. Evidence collected at the scene supported the child’s story.
