February 7, 2009 - Fires Damage Two Homes

Two house fires within one hour late Saturday night

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to two house fires within one hour late Saturday night. Fire crews were dispatch first to 2716 Murphy Street for a one story wood frame home at 9:39 PM. Fire crews from Station #4 arrived three minutes later to find the home fully engulfed with flames. After ensuring everyone was out of the home they immediately began protecting a home next door that was exposed to the flames. The fire was attacked and placed under control in 18 minutes. The home was occupied by one adult male who had just came home and found the front room of the home on fire. The home received heavy fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire crews responded to the second fire at 10:35 PM at 4733 Adams Street. Fire crews from Station #9 arrived on scene in four minutes to find another single story wood frame home with fire coming from two sides of the home and the attic. Fire crews enter the home and brought the fire under control in 15 minutes. The home was occupied at the time by one adult female. She stated she had no electricity and was using candles for light. She left the home to visit a neighbor and came back to find her home on fire. The home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage. Fire investigators confirmed the cause of the fire to be two candles that were left on a coffee table.
