January 24, 2009 - Firefighters Battle Early Morning Blaze

Occupant found bathroom on fire

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to 1708 Kelsey Street this morning at 2:25 AM for a reported house fire. Fire crews arrived on scene within five minutes to find a single story wood frame home with flames and heavy smoke visible from the home. The fire was aggressively attacked from the rear of the home where access was quickly available. The front of the home was secured and forcible entry had to be used to access the front of the home. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.

The home was occupied at the time by one adult male. He reported to the Fire Investigator that he woke up and smelled smoke and found the bathroom on fire. The home had no electricity at the time of the fire. The occupant escaped the home without injury.

Six fire crews and one medic crew responded to the scene. There were 20 firefighters that responded to incident scene with no firefighter injuries reported. The fire is under investigation at this time to determine a cause.
