January 15, 2009 - Early Afternoon House Likely Caused by an Electrical Short in an Extension Cord

Heavy Fire Damage at 2742 Martin Luther King

Fire officials speculate that either an electrical short in an extension cord or the refrigerator caused a home at 2742 Martin Luther King to sustained heavy damage. At 3:57 p.m., fire crews discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows on the north and east exterior sides of a single- story wood-framed structure. Firefighters entered the front door to extinguish heavy flames that were quickly spreading throughout the home. It took fire crews less than 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

“The cause of this fire was determined as accidental. Over 50 percent of the home sustained heavy fire damage. Fortunately, the homeowner was not there at home at the onset of the fire,” said Fire Investigator Chris Robinson.
