December 23, 2008 - SFD Issues Reminders concerning Fireworks during the Holidays

Fireworks celebration

During this holiday season the sound of fireworks will be heard throughout the night and seen illuminating the skies with brilliant colors. The Shreveport Fire Department wants everyone to enjoy the celebration and keep it safe and legal!

Authorized fireworks can be legally discharged through Tuesday, December 30, 2008 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily. That time is extended on New Year’s Eve from 08:00 a.m. to 01:00 a.m, one hour past midnight. The use and discharge fireworks can resume at 8:00 a.m. on New Year’s Day ending at 10:00 p.m. on January 1, 2009.

The Shreveport Fire Prevention Bureau will be enforcing the city ordinance and fire codes concerning fireworks. Violators can be fined a minimum of $500 per violation. Fire officials report that to possess, sell or use any type of bottle rocket or sky rockets with sticks is illegal.
