Change the title of District Chief

Fire Chief Brian A. Crawford recently announced that the Fire and Police Civil Service Board has approved his petition to officially change the title of District Chief to the title of Battalion Chief within the chain of command of the Shreveport Fire Department. Effective Thursday, January 1, 2009, this title will be officially adopted by the department.

The title Battalion Chief will be used in the State of Louisiana exclusively by the Shreveport Fire Department. In adopting this change, the department mirrors other National Emergency Response models and positions itself more in-line with larger metropolitan fire departments.

“This change is in title only. The duties and responsibilities of the District Chief’s position will remain the same as the new Battalion Chief. Our department will continue to provide the same outstanding service for the citizens of Shreveport,” said Crawford. “This name change will allow our department to communicate more effectively while responding to mutual-aid incidents with Caddo’s Rural Fire Districts.”
