December 13, 2008 - Cooking Fire Damages Apartment

Fire at Villa Marguis II Appartments

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to the Villa Marquis II Apartments at 7100 Janey Lane this afternoon at 3:31 PM. Fire crews arrived on scene within three minutes to find smoke coming from an upstairs apartment. The fire started from grease left cooking on the stove and caused heavy damage to the kitchen area of the apartment. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes and was contained to the one apartment.

The apartment was occupied by a family of four at the time but all escaped the apartment with no injuries. The Shreveport Fire Department would like to remind all citizens to exercise caution when cooking and never leave anything cooking on the stove unattended. Cooking fires remain the number one cause of residential fires and Shreveport has experienced many of them this year with tragic results.
