December 3, 2008 - Man Suffers Burns in Morning House Fire

Small wood frame home

Shreveport Fire crews responded to a small wood frame home at 570 East 71st Street this morning at 10:14 AM. Crews arrived on scene within four minutes to find heavy smoke coming from the home. The fire was extinguished and brought under control within 10 minutes.

The home was occupied at the time by two adults. The fire started in the living room where two small electrical heaters ignited some curtains and straw. One of the adults, a 66 year old male, suffered 2nd degree burns to his arm and nose when he tried to extinguish the fire with a gallon of water. He was transported to LSUMC Burn center for medical treatment.

The Shreveport Fire Department would like to remind all of the Shreveport community that the United States Fire Administration recommends that all combustibles be kept a minimum of three (3) feet away from heaters and if your home catches on fire get yourself and everyone out of the home immediately and call 9-1-1.
