October 26, 2008 - Early Morning House Fire Damages Two Homes

Fire in Attic

The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to 1824 St. Paul street this morning at 5:03 AM for a house fire. Fire crews arrived on scene within five minutes to find a single story wood frame home heavily involved with fire in the attic and rear portion of the home.

The home was occupied at the time by two elderly males, one 69 years old and the other 70 years old, who were physically challenged from medical reasons. A neighbor across the street saw the home on fire and assisted the two men from the home prior to arrival of the fire department. Both men were medically treated by paramedics at the scene and were found to have now injuries.

The home was so heavily involved with fire that crews were forced to exit the home due to the roof collapsing. Fire crews took up a defensive attack by applying as much water as they could from multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire.

An unoccupied home at 1828 St. Paul suffered light fire damage from being exposed to the heavy fire from the involved home. Fire crews were able to prevent the fire from damaging it by keeping the home wet down with hose lines.

Nine Fire Companies (25 firefighters) were dispatched to this fire with no firefighter or civilian injuries being reported. Fire Investigators say the fire started in the attic but have not determined the cause yet.
