Octover 13, 2008 - NWLA Firefighters collect over $6400 during “Golden Hour” Fundraiser

Helping to fund medical breakthroughs in the fight against cardiovascular diseases

Last month, the Northwest Louisiana Firefighters Association (NWLA) collected $6,470 for the American Heart Association’s “Golden Hour” fundraising benefit according to Event Organizer and Fire Captain Fredrick Williams. “Even though we fell short of our $15,000 goal, I am truly grateful for the donations because it moves us one step closer to funding medical breakthroughs in our fight against cardiovascular diseases. This campaign is close to my heart, and I’m committed to supporting the efforts of the American Heart Association.”

Area firefighters ‘shook the boot’ for 60 minutes to bring local attention to the American Heart Association’s National Heartwalk campaign. The theme for the “Golden Hour” activities was symbolic in that it represents the belief that if a person receives proper medical attention within 60 minutes of experiencing their first heart attack symptom they increase their chances of survival. Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer of Americans and firefighters.

Williams, a heart attack survivor, says that this campaign is not over. Donations can still be made by visiting the American Heart Association at www.americanheart.org.
