September 22, 2008 - Firefighters and the American Heart Association plans “Golden Hour” benefit

Firefighters from Northwest Louisiana will be stationed at major intersections

Fire Chief Brian Crawford, the 2008 Chairman of the American Heart Association’s “Heart walk”, announced the plans for the American Heart Association’s ”Golden Hour” fundraising benefit. On Saturday, September 27, 2008, area firefighters from Northwest Louisiana will be stationed at major intersections throughout Caddo and Bossier parishes from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon collecting donations.
The theme for the “Golden Hour” activity is symbolic in that it represents the belief that if a person receives proper medical attention within 60 minutes of experiencing the first heart attack symptom they increase their chances of survival. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, “In 2008, an estimated 770,000 Americans will have a new coronary attack, and about 430,000 will have a recurrent attack.”
Event Organizer and Fire Captain Frederick “Tank” Williams, a heart attack survivor says, “All proceeds collected will help fund future medical breakthroughs and fight cardiovascular diseases, which is the number 1 killer of Americans and firefighters. We’re asking the citizens of Caddo and Bossier parishes to help us support this worthy cause by generously donating.”
Chief Crawford applauds Captain Williams for his tireless commitment to the American Heart Association and the NWLF fundraising efforts. Captain Williams hopes to reach the target goal of $15,000.
