September 6, 2008 - Arsonist Torches Shreveport Home and Sends 3 Firefighters to the Hospital

Multiple fires were intentionally set

Three Shreveport Fire Department firefighters were transported to local hospitals after suffering from heat and fire related injuries, and dehydration while battling a fire on 5608 Alpine Street. Fire Investigator Chris Robinson determined that “this fire was started at the hand of an arsonist.”

Firefighter Mensah Davis, a 3-year firefighter, sustained first and second degree burns to his hands and neck. Fire Captain Troy Parish, a 17 year veteran and Firefighter DeMario Harris, a 1 year firefighter both suffered dehydration and heat exhaustion. Davis was treated and released from LSUMC, and will return to duty upon release by physician. Parish and Harris were treated and released from Willis-Knighton Health System.

Robinson concluded that multiple fires were intentionally set in more than one room of the occupied structure. Further investigation discovered electricity and natural gas services were disconnected prior to the fire which eliminated the possibility of an accidental fire source. Neighbors identified a female leaving the structure shortly before smoke was seen coming from the back of the home.

"This investigation is ongoing, and we currently seeking persons of interest.” Robinson said. Anyone with information about this or any fire can contact the ARSON HOTLINE at 673-6709.
