Fire Department Urges Citizens to Be Safe

Some Life and Property Saving Tips include:

• Non-perishable can goods, baby food, and bottled water to sustain for 3 to 7-days

• Obtain necessary medications prior

• Flash light(s) with extra batteries are recommended above candles and lanterns because of potential fire hazards

• Battery-operated weather station radio

• Alternate form of communication--cell phone or 2-way radios

• Secure sand bags to protect your home from rising water

• Bring pets inside or away from rising waters

• Stay inside to avoid flying debris

• Avoid downed power lines

• Avoid rising waters and do not drive through water that is higher than the mid-point of the front tire

• Don’t allow children to play in high water or swift currents

• If using a generator for back-up power, place generator and extra fuel in well-vented area to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning
