May 9, 2008 - Shreveport Firefighters team up with Habitat for Humanity to build home for needy family in Mooretown

Groundbreaking for home Monday, May 12 - Charles T. Beaird Foundation awarded a $25,000 grant for project

Shreveport Firefighters have teamed up with Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Louisiana (HFHNWLA), who has been awarded a $25,000.00 grant, to help construct the new home for a needy family in the city’s Mooretown neighborhood. Shreveport firefighters known for their great emergency response within the city also have a very charitable side, working on such projects as Paint Your Heart Out, Northwest United Way, and the MDA “Shake the Boot” Campaign.

This project is one of the largest volunteer projects ever undertaken by the Fire Department but when contacted by the Habitat for Humanity staff about the possibility of partnering with them on building a home for Ms. Carmen Nelson and her children, they jumped at the opportunity.
