April 7, 2008 - Fire Department Investigating Local Adult Club About Burned Dancer

Fire demonstration not permissible by fire codes

On the morning of Friday, April 4th around 4:30 a.m. the Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to the Deje Vu/ Hustler Club at 202 Commerce Street for an EMS call reporting someone burned. When firefighters arrived they found a dancer in the manager's office complaining of 2-degree burns to her face and neck. The dancer stated that she had received the burns while performing a live fire demonstration inside of the club. Paramedics treated and transported her to LSUMC for further evaluation where she was treated and released.

In addition to the injury the incident presented a serious life-safety occupancy issue that the fire department is investigating. Allowing this type of pyrotechnics inside a business is prohibited by the city’s fire life safety code without a permit, for which the club did not have. Fire Investigators spoke with management of the club this afternoon and told them they were in violation of the city’s life-safety fire code and to cease and desist from any further flammable demonstrations. According to investigators, if the club had applied for a permit they would not been granted one for this type of application. Management of the club said they would comply. ###
