September 24, 2007 - National Fire Prevention Week National Fire Prevention Week is October 7-13, 2007 and the Shreveport Fire Department is gearing up for what they hope will be their most successful Fire Prevention Week ever. The theme this year is, “Practice Your Escape Plan.” In a community wide effort, the Shreveport Fire Department is working diligently with local schools, media organizations, and civic groups to get the message out to practice your escape plan. More then one thousand home fires break out in the United States everyday. Unfortunately, most families are not prepared. Make sure your family has a fire escape plan, and that you practice what to do in an emergency. On October 1, at 6:00 pm the city is invited to join the Shreveport Fire Department for our “Kick Off” program at Central Fire Station, 263 North Common Street, Shreveport Louisiana. We will have free hot dogs, popcorn, drinks, balloons, and a free family photo with our new fire engine. Most importantly, we will be passing out flyers for the citizens to use for their fire escape plan. Also, there will be a sign-up list for people who do not have smoke detectors in their home. The Shreveport Fire Department would like for the city to participate in a city wide fire drill on October 7th at 7:00 pm. The City-Wide Fire Drill will be Sunday October 7, 2007. Each Fire Station will pull out of the stations and sound their horns and sirens for one minute at 7:00 pm to let the community know it is time for your fire drill, practice your fire escape plan. We hope that with this awareness, the Fire Department can be a catalyst to help reduce the number of citizens that die in house fires. The purpose of the drill is to remind the citizens of the importance of a home escape drill/plan. Every person in the household should know where to go and what to do if there is a fire in their home. Advanced planning could mean the difference between a safe escape and tragedy. Remember our theme for this year campaign is “Practice Your Escape Plan.” Your attendance at our “Kick Off” on October 1st at Central Fire Station would be greatly appreciated.
