August 10, 2007 – Shreveport Fire Department “On the Run” For MDA

2^nd Annual “Beat the Heat” 5K Run/Walk

The Shreveport Fire Department Local #514 in conjunction with Firehouse Subs will host the 2^nd Annual “Beat the Heat” 5K Run/Walk on August 11, 2007 to benefit the Ark-La-Tex Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Each year, area fire fighters “Fill the Boot” for MDA to support the local services they provide. Last year, the Shreveport Fire Department decided to add something new to their collection efforts – a 5K run/walk! Event coordinator and SFD fire fighter Stephen Farmer was very excited about this first-time event and is looking forward to this year, “We hope there is an even larger turnout than last year and that the community again comes out to support us and MDA.”

The 5K will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007 beginning at 8:00AM at Mall St. Vincent. Two fire trucks will serve as the official starting line behind Sears in the mall parking lot and the sirens will kick off the race! Participation is only $15 for pre-registrations and $20 for those on-site. All proceeds will go to the Ark-La-Tex Muscular Dystrophy Association.
