March 11, 2007- “Change Your Clock; Change Your Battery!”
Daylight Saving Begins Early

Beginning this year, Daylight Savings time begins on the second Sunday of March. However, the Shreveport Fire Department urges everyone to go a step further and change the battery in your smoke alarm, when you change your clock. Furthermore, test your smoke alarm by pushing the test button.

In just the first three weeks of February over 200 people across the nation were killed in home fires. Sadly, many of these deaths were in homes without working smoke alarms. We all have a responsibility to reduce hazards in our homes. Responsibility simply means taking the time to change the battery in your smoke alarm, which can equate to providing you the precious time needed to escape a terrible fire. By actively following the simple adage, “Change your clock; change your battery” you are responsibly investing in making Shreveport a fire safe community. For more information fire or injury prevention issues, contact the Shreveport Fire Department at 673-6740. ###
