The public safety agencies of Shreveport and Bossier will be holding a September 11th Five Year Anniversary Memorial to commemorate the deadly 2001 terrorist attacks and recognize those who lost their lives but in particular the more than 400 in uniform who made the ultimate sacrificed that day.

The following are the logistics of the event:

Event: September 11th Fire Year Anniversary Memorial
Place: Riverfront Park, Shreveport, Clyde Fant Parkway

    (outdoor theatre behind fountains)

Date: Monday, September 11, 2006
Time: 5:15 – 6:15 p.m.

Fire departments and law enforcement agencies, including Shreveport Fire and Police, Bossier City Fire and Police, Caddo and Bossier Sheriffs Office will be participating in the memorial. Shreveport Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran will deliver the keynote address and the Centenary Choir will perform. Additionally, the park area will be draped with “Ribbons of Remembrance” listing the more than 3,000 names of all those who perished on that day. The 1,500-foot long display will remain in the park for a week following the event to allow citizens to pay their respects. Lucienne Simon of Shreveport approached the Shreveport Fire Department with the ribbon idea and will be working to have all in place by the time of the event. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend.
