August 8, 2006-SHREVEPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT “ON THE RUN” FOR MDA

Shreveport Fire Department Local #514 in conjunction with Firehouse Subs will host the first “Beat the Heat” 5K Run/Walk on August 12, 2006 to benefit the Ark-La-Tex Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Each year, area fire fighters “Fill the Boot” for MDA to support the local services they provide. This year, the Shreveport Fire Department decided to add something new to their collection efforts – a 5K run/walk! Event coordinator and SFD fire fighter Stephen Farmer is very excited about this first-time event, “We hope there is a wonderful turnout and that the community comes out to support us and MDA.”

The 5K will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2006 beginning at 8:30AM at Mall St. Vincent.

Two fire trucks will serve as the official starting line behind Sears in the mall parking lot and the sirens will kick off the race! Participation is only $15 for pre-registrations and $20 for those on-site. All proceeds will go to the Ark-La-Tex Muscular Dystrophy Association.
