April 24, 2006 - Gunshot Survivor to Become Honorary Firefighter

Eighteen year old Christopher Randle dreamed of one day becoming a Shreveport firefighter. All that changed when Randle received a gunshot wound to the head last year

Instead of working on becoming a firefighter, Randle had to fight just to live after sustaining an almost always fatal wound. But Randle did survive and through physical rehabilitation, is continuing to regain most of his basic life functions.

Randle’s story and miraculous recovery caught the attention of the Shreveport Fire Department and Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran. “Because of his injuries, Randle may never be able to conquer the physical demands necessary to become a firefighter but because of his drive and determination in overcoming overwhelming odds, he has shown the spirit and true heart of a firefighter,” said Cochran. For this achievement the fire department will honor Randle by making him an Honorary Shreveport Firefighter in a ceremony tomorrow. Here are the logistics of the event:

Event: Honorary Shreveport Firefighter Christopher Randle
Shreveport Fire Department, Central Fire Station (Fire Chief’s Conference Room)
Tuesday, April 25, 2006 1:30 p.m.

Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran will preside over the event where Randle will be presented with an Honorary Shreveport Firefighter certificate, shirt and hat. ###
