February 8, 2006 - Firefighters to receive thank you and Commendation for saving South Highland woman

The Shreveport Fire Department will honor three of its firefighters with Certificates of Commendation for their heroic actions in saving the life of a South Highland woman from her burning home last Friday . . . .

(January 27). Terri McGuire, who was overcome by smoke and found facedown on the floor of a back bedroom, will also be on-hand to personally thank firefighters. Logistics of the ceremony:

Being honored: Fire Captain Greg Fulco, and Firefighters Jake Shaver and Jarred Wright

The fire, called in at 2:15 p.m., was producing heavy smoke and flames when fire crews arrived. Because information had been conveyed that someone might still be in the home, firefighters aggressively began rescue efforts while others fought the fire. The firefighters used new thermal imaging cameras, which allow vision through thick smoke conditions, to rescue Mrs. McGuire. Mrs. McGuire was transported to LSUMC and later transferred to Willis Knighton Medical Center where she underwent hyperbaric treatment for heavy smoke inhalation. ###
