Fire Department Celebration Saturday

Closing - Old Central Fire Station

Grand Opening - New Central Fire Station

The Shreveport Fire Department will be holding its Grand Opening Ceremony for the new Dallas W. Greene Central Fire Station this Saturday but not before saying goodby to the historic old station, located downtown...

The new $4.9 million fire station, located at 263 North Common Street, incorporates state-of-the-art technology and architectural elegance in its 32,000 square feet of space that plays home to both emergency response equipment and staff, and the administrative offices of the department. Firefighters will spend their last night in the old station, located at 801 Crockett Street and erected in 1922, Friday night and close the doors on 82 years of tradition Saturday morning. The following are the logistics for the closing ceremony:

Event: Ceremonial Closing of Historic Central Fire Station,

      801 Crockett Street

    Date: Saturday, June 19, 2004

    Time: 9:00 a.m.

The closing ceremony will be marked with former Fire Department members as well as current members speaking about their experience at the old station. A lowering of the flag ceremony will follow to the sound of taps and bagpipes. Finally the alarm will sound for the last time at the historic station and the bay doors will close for the last time. Immediately following the closing ceremony a mototcade procession will proceed to the new station for the opening ceremony:
