Fire Department to Recognize Civilians and Firefighters for Lifesaving Efforts and Accomplishments

The Shreveport Fire Department will recognize firefighters and civilians Tuesday, May 27, at a 2:00 p.m. ceremony in the Fire Chief’s office at Central Fire Station (801 Crockett Street) for life saving efforts . . .

performance above and beyond, and personal achievement.

Fire Department Assistant Chief Terry Lewis, Inspector Chris Robinson, Captain Mike Lawson and firefighters Richard Lane, Michael Fredieu, Floyd Seamster, Jevonnie Rutledge, will be recognized for their lifesaving effort last month at a Wal-Mart where a customer, 53-year-old, Kenneth Miles of Shreveport, had suffered a cardiac arrest. Two customers, Barksdale airman Sgt. Derrick Williamson, and Jackie Fisher, a registered nurse with Willis Knighton started CPR performed CPR and will also be recognized for their contributions. Miles was transported to Willis Knighton Pierremont where after spending several weeks recovering in ICU he was discharged.

Seventeen year old Kyla Morris will be recognized for fighting off a fire at her home in the 3000 block of Desoto earlier this month. Morris, who was seven months pregnant was ensuring that everyone was out of the residence and attacking the fire with an outside garden hose prior to the fire department’s arrival. Officials said that her actions stopped the fire from causing further damage before they could arrive and fully extinguish it.

The crew from Rescue 1-C shift will be commended for assisting a female who was suffering a medical emergency during an outside event downtown .

Ms. Mandie Cash, 14 year old Shreveport resident and eighth grader at Caddo Middle Magnet, will be recognized for her recent second place finish in the State Social Studies Fair in Baton Rouge. Her subject: the Shreveport Fire Department. Cash won twice at the local level before competing in the state competition.
