Fire Academy Hosting National Stroke Treatment Program

EMS paramedics to receive cutting-edge technology and treatments

The Shreveport Fire Academy is playing to a host to a new national Stroke treatment training program. Emergency Medical personnel from across the state will be inserviced in the most current and comprehensive emergency stroke care available. A group led by the American Heart Association (AHA) is in Shreveport to train area EMS personnel in the ability to perform a brief, focused neurological exam appropriate in an emergency setting. A team of Miami fire fighters and physicians from the University of Miami’s School of Medicine will be primary instructors during the training. Here are the logistics of the program:

8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m.

All media are welcome to attend and will be allowed unlimited access to program and participants. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the nation and number one cause of major disability. Emergency treatment to limit the risk of stroke disabilities are now available. By participating in this program, EMS personnel in Shreveport and across the state will learn the cutting edge of emergency stroke care and be able to use that knowledge in the field. ###
