Fire Damages Queensborough Residence

An fire heavily damages a Queensborough residence this afternoon before firefighters could bring it under control.

The call to 911 reporting the fire at 2916 Darien Street came in just after 2:00 p.m. When fire companies from the Fairgrounds and Milam Street Stations arrived they found flames and smoke coming from one side of the single story home. Fire fighters found the fire engulfing a back bedroom and were able to confine it to that portion of the home. The fire was officially listed as under control at 2:20 p.m.

Two people were at home at the time of the fire. A grandmother and her three year old grandson were able to escape without injury before fire crews arrived. Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze that reportedly did $15-$20,000 worth of damage to the home. Investigators believe the fire may have started in a closet of the bedroom and are questioning the toddler and grandmother. ###
