Fire Department to Release September 11 Tribute to Public

The Shreveport Fire Department has decided to release an agency presentation that pays tribute to the hero’s of September 11 to the general public . . .

following numerous requests for the program as the one-year anniversary date of the terrorist attacks approaches. Initially, the computer slide presentation, set to the music of Enya with voice-overs of the President and news reports of September 11, was developed last year as a tribute and placed in a promotional CD featuring Shreveport Fire Department operations. As word spread about the program, organizations and individuals began contacting the Department about acquiring a copy of the program for themselves or for September 11 observances.

The four-minute program is a somber look at the events of September 11, 2001, beginning with images of the World Trade Centers being struck and the immediate aftermath. The presentation then transitions to the reactions in the days following the attacks as well as funeral services for members of the New York Fire and Police Departments. It closes with images of the memorial held in Shreveport at Municipal Auditorium on September 25. The last image is of the now famous picture capturing the three Fire Department of New York (FDNY) firefighters raising the American Flag against the backdrop of Ground Zero with a bolded caption saying, "The Shreveport Fire Department Remembers and Will Never Forget Those Who Gave All on September 11, 2001."

Compact Discs (CD) of the program are available at Central Fire Station, 801 Crockett Street. To reserve your copy, please contact the Shreveport Fire Department at 673-6650 or e-mail brian.crawford@ci.shreveport.la.us.
