Firefighters to Host Children’s Burn Camp Today

Shreveport firefighters will play host to children from the Percy Johnson Burn Foundation Burn Camp this afternoon at their Fair Grounds Station, 3406 Velva.

More than 45 children from the Burn Camp will arrive at the fire station at 4:00 p.m. for an evening of fun and food. The children and some 40 adult chaperones and parents will be treated to a fish fry and entertained by Pluggie, the robotic fire hydrant, Sparkey, the Fire Department mascot, and EMS clowns Zip and Zap. Rescue dogs from the Fire Department and the Life Air Rescue helicopter and crew are also planning on making an appearance.

The Fire Department hosts the Burn Foundation summer campers each and every year and according to Camp Director Barbara Boyd, "It is the highlight of the camp." The children spend a week at "Camp Alabama," which is located about halfway between Ruston and Monroe, north of I-20, and will conclude Friday, June 14. ###
