Queensborough Home Damaged in Morning Fire

A Queensborough home was heavily damaged by a fire this morning that appears to have started in a back bedroom.

When firefighters received the call reporting the fire at 2834 Harp Street at 9:29 a.m., thick black smoke was already billowing from the windows and roof-line of the single story wood structure - typical construction for the area. When crews were able to get into the home, they found heavy smoke, leaving them with poor visibility. Firefighters were able to reach the back of the home where they found one of the structure’s bedrooms totally involved in flames. The fire was officially brought under control in just under 15 minutes.

The home’s occupants were not at home at the time of the fire. Resident, Celeste Anderson, 56, told fire officials that she was the last one home this morning prior to the fire. Anderson said she left the house about an hour before the fire around 8:30 a.m. Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire but believe it did originate from the bedroom. No injuries were reported. ###
