Food on Stove Blamed for Highland Fire

Food left unattended on a stove is being blamed for a fire last night that damaged a Highland area home at 121 Merrick Street. Firefighters responded to the residence at 9:15 p.m. and upon arrival found smoke coming from several of the home’s windows. Once inside, crews from the department’s Stoner Avenue and Wilkinson Street stations found fire rolling through the home’s kitchen. The fire was brought under control some ten minutes later at 9:26 p.m.

The fire damage was primarily contained to the kitchen area but smoke damage was apparent throughout the home. No injuries were reported to citizens or firefighters. ###
