Bicycle Rodeo rounds out National Safety Week

Shreveport Police Department will help sponsor a Bicycle Rodeo this Saturday at the new Wal-Mart SuperCenter on Mansfield Road.

Any child between the ages of 6 and 12 can participate in the event, and Wal-Mart will provide bicycles for the rodeo. Children are asked to bring their bicycle helmets with them.

A bike rodeo skills course will be offered to help kids learn various skills that will allow them to ride their bicycles with confidence and experience. The course is designed to simulate actual road conditions and five stations will promote bicycle safety, as endorsed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Besides bicycle safety, kids will also learn safety lessons for scooters, rollerblades, skateboards and pedestrian safety.

The event is sponsored by Wal-Mart, the Safe Kids Coalition and the Shreveport Police Department.

It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 9550 Mansfield Road.
