Off Duty Firefighter Recovering After Receiving Burns

An off duty Shreveport firefighter is recovering in the Burn Treatment Center at Louisiana State University Health and Sciences Center after sustaining serious burns from a flash fire Monday. Six-year veteran firefighter Jeff Teer, 33, of Shreveport, was preparing to burn brush at a residence off of Highway 169 in Greenwood when he mistakenly poured what he thought was diesel but was actually gasoline on the pile of wood and grass. When Teer lit the brush pile, the gasoline caused it to flash over engulfing him in a fireball.

Teer’s brother, Scott, rushed him to the nearby Greenwood Fire District #3 station where he was treated by paramedics and transported to LSUHSC. It was estimated that Teer received first degree burns to his face, second degree to his arms and legs, and patches of third degree to his lower legs. He is listed in good condition and expected to remain hospitalized until this weekend. Doctors have stated that he will be off approximately six weeks due to the injury.
