Car Fire Damages Stoner Hill Home

Shreveport firefighters were called out at 1:25 p.m. this afternoon for the report of a car on fire at 1634 Martha Street. Minutes later, on their way to the incident, fire engine eleven from the department’s Youree Drive station rounded the street corner at Youree Drive and East Herndon and saw thick black smoke that alarmed the crew that there was more than just a car on fire. When the firefighters arrived on the scene, they found not only a car rolling in flames and smoke but the front of the home as well.

After breaking down the front door of the home to determine if the residence was occupied, it took fire crews a little more than 10 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire appears to have initiated from the car and spread to the residence. Damage to the vehicle, an early 90's Buick Park Avenue, was listed as heavy, while the damage to the small, wood frame residence was listed as moderate. While some smoke damage was apparent to the inside of the home, firefighters were able to minimize the fire damage by containing the blaze to the exterior of the structure.

No one was home at the time of the fire. Fire investigators are on the scene at this time trying to determine the cause for the fire. No injuries were reported.
