Fire Chief to Hold Press Conference

To Introduce Thermal Imaging to Area

Tomorrow the Shreveport Fire Department embarks on a new era in firefighting and citizen protection by providing their personnel with the life saving technology of Thermal Imaging cameras. Because of the importance and significance of this new technology, Shreveport Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran will hold his first press conferences of 2001 to discuss the highly touted cameras and what their additions will mean to the citizens of Shreveport. The following is the agenda for the press conference:

    Date: March 15, 2000

    Time: 10:00 a.m.

Place: Shreveport Fire and Police Training Academy

      6440 Greenwood Road

Nationally, thermal imaging has proven instrumental in the search and rescue of victims trapped during house fires. The durable cameras provide firefighters with sight in conditions of emergency operations where their vision is obstructed due to smoke, darkness, or fog. They are exceptional for finding undetected and hidden fire trapped in walls or partitions of a residence.

There will be a live fire demonstration of the Thermal Imaging cameras following the press conference on the grounds of the Academy. Other fire department officials will be present to discuss the technical applications and operations of the cameras.
