Fire Causes Damage to Apartment Complex

Fire officials evacuate building

A morning fire that swept through a downstairs apartment at the Greenway Square Apartment complex, 9050 Youree Drive, at 10:12 a.m., caused an evacuation of the entire building after fire officials feared that the fire may have gotten into the attic of the building.

After firefighters force their way into apartment 1805, they found the fire blazing in two back rooms of the residence. Because the fire had broken out the back windows of the apartment, it was able to travel up the surface of the wood and stucco building, igniting the outside of the apartment, 1806, directly overhead as well as a portion of the roof. Fire officials quickly positioned firefighters in the back of the building as well as on the roof to finally bring the fire under control at 10:40 a.m. As a precaution, all residence in building number eighteen of the complex were evacuated.

The residence of apartment 1805 were not at home at the time of the fire. At this time, fire investigators have not issued a report listing the cause of the fire. Firefighter, Brad Hamilton, 24, sustained a minor burn during the fire. He was not transported to the hospital.
