The Bureau of Workforce Development has three major program components and they are WIA, LaJET and STEP Job Readiness Program.
WIA
TheWorkforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA)provides the framework for a unique national workforce preparation and employment system designed to meet the needs of
the nation’s businesses and the needs of job seekers and those who want to further their careers.
The goal of the ACTis to increase employment, retention, and earnings of participants and in doing so, improve the quality of the workforce to sustain economic growth, enhance productivity and competitiveness and reduce welfare dependency.

LaJET
The Louisiana Job Employment & Training Program (LaJET) was established under section 6(d)(4) of the Food Stamp Act of 1977, as amended (7)U.S.C. 2015(d)4) and was continued in the Food Stamp Program provisions of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1996. LaJET is funded by the State of Louisiana, Department of Social Services, Office of Family Support through the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
The purpose of our program is to place able-bodied food stamp recipients in educational or work related activities that will increase their chances of obtaining regular employment, and thus, reduce their need for public assistance.
Caddo Parish Food Stamp recipients who are required to register to work are mandated to participate in our program as a condition of continued eligibility for receiving food stamps.

STEP Job Readiness Program
The
Strategies to Empower People Program (STEP) was established under the Personal Responsibility and Universal Engagement Act of 2003, Act 58 of the Louisiana Legislature. Funding is received from the Louisiana Department of Labor through the State Department of Social Services, Office of Family Support. This program has six major components and they are Client Eligibility and Case Management, Job Readiness and Job Search Services, Literacy and GED, Job Skills and Continuing Education, Parenting Classes, and Service Coordination.
STEP assists recipients of the Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program (FITAP) to prepare for and obtain employment through participation in various activities.
We administer the Job Readiness component of this program, and our
purpose is to provide job-seeking assistance, and training in how to get and keep a job. In addition to the four weeks of training, each participant receives testing, counseling, job development and referral for other services. We serve FITAP recipients who live in Caddo Parish, and participation in our program is required for continued receipt of their benefits.
Our Mission – To make available to the customer an array of employment, education, training and workforce development services, so that individuals and employers can make informed choices about their needs.
