PRESS RELEASE: Shreveport Regional Airport Short-Term Parking reopens Monday, Nov. 19
For Immediate Release: Nov. 19, 2001
Short-term parking at Shreveport Regional Airport reopened on Monday, Nov. 19, 2001.
Short-term parking has been closed since shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York City and Washington D.C. The parking lot was closed because it is located within 300 feet of the airport terminal.
The Federal Aviation Administration this week approved the Airport Authority reopening the lot after airport officials requested using the lot based on several conditions. These requirements are:
Vehicles will be searched for weapons or explosive devices before entering the lot.
The lot will be patrolled by security officials on a 24-hour basis.
The lot has approximately 200 parking spaces. The airport has approximately 650 long term spaces. In October, the Airport Authority received permission to reopen nearly half of the 90 space QuickPark lot. The lot is located north of the terminal.
The lot's reopening is important because of the holiday travel season, which begins the week of Nov. 18. Many airlines serving Shreveport are reporting aircraft with passenger loads of 80 percent or more.
"The Shreveport Airport Authority appreciates the public's patience in these trying times following the September attacks on our great country," said Roy H. Miller, Jr., Director of Airports. "The airport staff will continue to work diligently to provide a safe and secure environment while also being customer-friendly."
