PRESS RELEASE: Airports Director Roy Miller Receives Top Award From Louisiana Airports Managers Association
The Louisiana Airports Managers and Associates organization has named Shreveport's director of airports for its top annual award. Roy H. Miller, Jr. received the association's President's Award during the organization's annual meeting in Monroe on May 13, 2003. LAMA President and Baton Rouge Airport Director Anthony Marino presented Mr. Miller the award for numerous reasons, including:
Bringing a Continental Express Airlines Regional Jet Maintenance Facility to Shreveport in November 2001. The facility is expected to bring 600 jobs and a $28 million payroll to Louisiana by 2006. The new operation already employs more than 200.
Serving on Louisiana Governor Mike Foster's Intermodal Transportation Committee to help prepare Louisiana's aviation infrastructure for future growth.
Expanding airline service in Shreveport at a time when many airports are seeing reductions in airline service. In January, Delta Connection/Comair added daily Regional Jet service to Cincinnati. A second Cincinnati flight began in May. In the last year, ASA, American Connection, Continental Express, and Northwest Airlink have each increased the number of Regional Jet flights into Shreveport.
Completing the Shreveport Regional Airport's terminal on time and under budget in 1999.
"This award is a fantastic acknowledgment of Director Miller's efforts in Shreveport the past several years. The award is well deserved and long overdue," said Raymond Alley, Chairman of the Shreveport Airport Authority. "In light of today's challenges in the airline and airport industry where surrounding airports have seen reductions in airline service, the fact Shreveport has added service and jobs is a real credit to Mr. Miller."
Mr. Miller is a native of Marshall, Texas. He has served as Shreveport's Director of Airports since 1989 and has been in the aviation industry for more than 30 years. Previously, he was the director of Texarkana Regional Airport. He served as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot in Vietnam, and later in pilot and management roles with helicopter companies before moving into airport management in 1985.
