Chief Roberts to eat lunch with future officer

Is it possible that the heroic efforts of police and firefighters on Sept. 11 will encourage more people to choose a career in public safety?

On Friday, Shreveport Police Chief Jim Roberts and Sgt. Wendell Delaney will have lunch with a young student who wants to do just that.

The two police leaders will travel to Central Elementary School (1627 Weinstock) at 11:30 a.m. Friday to meet Central student Turlando Washington.

Turlando has wanted to become a police officer for quite some time, and Chief Roberts will visit with him to explain the ins and outs of the job.
