Officers to receive Unit Citations

About 28 members of the Shreveport Police Department will receive unit citations for outstanding work during Operation Pay Day last month.

The operation netted 49 arrests for suspects wanted for domestic violence offenses. The week-long operation marked the first operation focusing on misdemeanor offenses in recent SPD history.

Most of the people were arrested on warrants that had been issued against them for simple battery involving a domestic violence-related offense.

Operation Pay Day operated April 30 to May 4 from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day and involved 28 officers covering every area in the city.

The operation was part of the police department’s domestic violence task force, formed this year to concentrate efforts on domestic violence among families. Last year, about 25 percent of the city’s 58 homicides stemmed from domestic violence.

The ceremony takes place at 3 p.m. today in the Shreveport Police Assembly Room on the second floor of the Shreveport Police Facility.
