Man found in Cross Lake identified

A man found dead in Cross Lake this morning has been identified as 79-year-old Cletus Cooper of Shreveport.

Cooper was found by Cross Lake patrol under a Cypress tree about 20 feet from the shore about 9:25 a.m. The body was close to where a fisherman found Cooper’s capsized 14-foot aluminum fishing boat 70 minutes earlier.

Cooper reportedly went out to the lake this morning to fish. There were no signs of trauma, but the coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. It is possible Cooper died of a heart attack or by drowning, according to detectives.

Cooper’s wife has been notified. Cooper would have turned 80 on Thursday.
