Police arrest 49 during Operation Pay Day

Shreveport Police Department’s Operation Pay Day aimed at putting domestic abusers behind bars was a success.

The operation, which began Monday and ended today, put 49 people behind bars for domestic abuse.

The operation involved officers serving arrest warrants for a variety of domestic violence-related offenses.

Most of the arrest warrants were for simple battery, which is a use of force or violence against someone without the use of a weapon. Maximum punishment for simple battery is a $500 fine and six months in jail.

While simple battery is a misdemeanor, some of the crimes behind these simple batteries would outrage most law-abiding citizens. Some of the cases dealt with during the operation included :

• A man hitting his girlfriend and 2-month-old baby in the face.

• An alleged stalker throwing a rock through a window while the victim and the victim’s daughter were asleep.

• A man cutting his girlfriend’s hand with a knife and then slashing the tires on her vehicle.

• A driver kicking the victim out of a moving car, keeping one foot on the gas pedal while using the other to force the complainant from the vehicle.

• A husband beating up his wife on two separate occasions.

Fourty-nine people were arrested as part of Operation Pay Day. Their names and charges are as follows:
